Norwich City Council has been revealed as the sixth local authority to move its Local Land Charges (LLC) Register online, part of an ongoing project to eventually establish a national register.
This national register will enable solicitors, other third parties and home owners to access instant online LLC information, which will dramatically shorten the conveyancing process.
The Land Registry says nearly 10% of all property sales this year will be completed using the new system as the service is already offering online searches among the participating areas.
It is charging £15 per property, which can be refreshed for up to six months for free.
The other local authorities to have migrated their LLC information online include Warwick, Liverpool, City of London, Blackpool and the Isles of Scilly.
“People buying property in Norwich will now have access to instant local land charges search results, meaning it will be quicker and simpler to buy and sell a house across the area,” says Karina Singh, Director of Transformation at HM Land Registry.
“I am delighted that home buyers across Norwich will benefit from this revolutionary new national Local Land Charges Register.”
Earlier this year the Land Registry said the online UK register, when it achieves national coverage, will end the ‘search’ lottery that many buyers endure at the moment; costs vary from £3 to £76 to complete searches depending on location, which in some areas can take up to 30 days to complete.
