Murray Lee, one of the four estate agents leading the charge to change the way Rightmove and other portals operate within the property industry, has published his reaction to Rightmove’s half-year figures, which revealed a 3.5% drop in agent numbers since January.
“Id like to think the the Say No To Rightmove campaign has had some effect on this and been part of the cause.
“Rob, Paul, David and myself have worked tirelessly since March to try and bring about some change in the way Rightmove (and the other portals) work. I think we had success if only by the discounts provided alone and proven by the 3.3% fall in branches.
“Adam Piggot of Openbrix was kind enough to mention this in his interview with Chris Watkins recently.
“I think we have seen a fundamental change in the way agents view the portals and the way they view us. I also have to thank Alan Goldin, Phillip Wise and Richard Dangoor for putting me forward to lead our local protest which culminated in the coming together of over 3000 agency branches in the action groups.
Portal shift
“But I am also sad that some of the numbers maybe agents who have had to close their branches and I wish them well. Nevertheless, overall we have seen a shift in the way the portals treat us, their clients, and their attitude towards us
“We are contacted more regularly by our reps and even the actual hierarchy of the companies themselves are making contact. They have taken notice. That along with the money saved is a very big change and I am proud of what we have done
“Moving forward, the campaign is not stopping, but pushing forward even further and we hope that Rightmove make the right move and come back to us with offers of better rates and lower tariffs after the end of the current discount period
“There is still a groundswell to leave them if they do not. ”
Murray Lee is Managing Director of North London estate agency Dreamview Estates.
