London firm Dexters reckons it’s the busiest estate agency in London post-lockdown, landing an impressive six deals an hour during the past two weeks.

The claim might be challenged by its rivals, but nevertheless, since the housing market reopened the agency has marked up a business record of more than 600 sales and lettings deals agreed – 20% up on the same period last year – an average of almost 45 deals per day, or six deals per hour.

Deals include everything from Mayfair mansions and Fulham pieds-à-terre to Chelsea family houses and flats.

The London market was expected to see a big price jump at Easter because it had been so busy earlier in the year, but as this has been put on hold during the pandemic, buyers are sensing that it’s now a good time to buy, says Dexters, which forecasts that demand will continue to push prices higher.

200% jump

It has also seen a 200% jump in new enquiries across its 70 offices, as chief executive Andy Shepherd says there’s been a real scramble from Londoners to move home after the lockdown. “Not only have house-hunters in the capital spent a great deal of time at home for the past couple of months but a lot of people will continue to do so.”

He adds: “Whilst some plan to move out of London, many are looking to move locally within the capital, or even closer to work. Cycle routes are the new travel lines into town, while walking distances to schools and how far it is to the park are now what everyone wants to know.”

Dexters has found that an extra room and outside space are top of many people’s wish-list.
