The Scottish government has revealed that the country’s housing market is to reopen on or after June 18th following the publication of its Coronavirus lockdown road map today.
Unless Northern Ireland and Wales make announcements before that date, this will make Scotland the first housing market to emerge from lockdown following England’s abrupt re-opening last week.
Scotland is currently in complete lockdown but First Minister Nicola Sturgeon has today revealed her government’s plans to loosen restrictions with a five-point phased road map.
Phase 1, which is due to start on 28th May will include enabling Scots to see family and friends in outdoor spaces, workplaces to re-open but only where home working is not possible and for people to make short journeys.
During this period the Scottish government says it will be working with the property industry to prepare for a relaxation of restrictions on house moves to take place during Phase 2 of the plan, which will being on or after June 18th.
During both Phase 1 and 2 there will also be a limited re-opening of schools and house builders will also be able to resume their construction activities.
According to the roadmap, non-essential indoor office workplaces such as estate agency branches and contact centres will only be allowed to re-open during Phase 3, which is likely to begin on August 11th.
But Sturgeon has warned today that the road map timetable is not fixed and is dependent on careful monitoring of the virus, including the infamous R number being kept below one.
