build to rent

The UK’s leading build-to-rent operator Get Living has hired the former Chief Executive of Savills Jeremy Helsby as an advisor as it bids to suck ever greater volumes out of the traditional lettings market.

Get Living is a joint venture between a Qatari developer, a UK private investment fund and a Dutch pension fund and already has 3,000 apartments under management in London and Manchester. It is building 5,000 more including 700 new apartments in Glasgow and Leeds.

The company is best known for its Olympic Village development in Stratford, which used to be the athlete’s accommodation for the 2012 Olympics.

It was one of the first landlords in the UK to scrap deposits and tenant fees, two years ahead of the fees ban.

Helsby joins Get Living as a Non-Executive Chairman and has been tasked with helping drive the company’s significant growth plans.

Continues to grow

“I am excited to join the Supervisory Board at such a key time for the business and the sector, as Get Living continues to grow and lead the build to rent sector, pioneering the way residents in the UK live and rent,” he says.

“I hope to contribute insight which will further strengthen and evolve our market leading management platform ensuring we continue to lead the charge in managing a significant portfolio of operational assets, are building a strong development pipeline and offer exemplary operating capabilities in the UK.”

The more relaxed and unconventional culture at Get Living will be a change for Helsby, who was a Savills lifer spending 40 years at the famously suited and booted estate agency including 11 years as its Chief Executive.
