35-branch prime London estate agency Chestertons has collected nearly 7,000 coats to distribute to London charities, 2,000 more than it did last year.

Its Calling Winter Coat Campaign is part of the company’s annual drive to collect coats during which each of its branches in the UK and overseas is turned into a collection point.

The initiative, which began in 2011, aims to help those who are homeless or can’t afford to buy a winter coat.
Members of staff at each branch work with friends, local businesses, schools, clients and community groups to help source the coats.

This included one keen member of staff who alone collected 234 coats, although the highest branch count came from its Gibraltar office which collected and shipped 685 coats back to its London HQ.

Chestertons staff then sorted the items of clothing and these are now being delivered to some 40 charities and shelters across the capital, including its nominated organisations, homelessness charity St Mungo’s but also Crisis at Christmas, Help our Homeless, Dress for Success, Suited & Booted, Hestia and a number of food banks that offer users clothing as well as food.

Coat challenge

“Our branches see it as a challenge to collect as many coats as possible and it’s great to see what initiatives they come up with to do so,” says Giles Milner, Marketing Director and Chairman of Chestertons Charity Champions.

“Obviously, we are completely reliant on the local communities we are working with, so my thanks goes to every single individual that donated and got involved this year.”
