A US estate agent has used pictures of a house on fire to market a property on the internet as an opportunity to ‘build your dream home’.
The unusual but creative approach by Florida estate agency Stellar Luxury & Beach Realty is being used to sell a fire-damaged three-bedroom, two bathroom, 6,000 sq ft house in the historic area of St Petersburg, Florida overlooking Tampa Bay.
Selling homes in need of severe restoration work may not be unusual, but the agency has decided to stir up some publicity by uploading pictures of the house ablaze and suggesting people viewing the property should bring marshmallows to melt on its burning remains.
While this may say a lot about local humour, on a more practical level the property is due to be demolished by the local council following a fire nine months ago and is on the market for $99,000 as a parcel of land with planning permission.
“It’s a smoking hot deal posted to the internet and people liked it,” says the estate agent involved (left), Dylan Jaeck. “That’s going to obviously grab your attention.
“The reason why we put the fire picture up is so you know that this property has to be torn down and you can build a new dream spec home. It’s creative marketing. It’s a niche. It got people talking.”
The picture was taken by the owner of the property, who lives next door and suggested the picture was used to raise awareness of the listing.
