Essex estate agency haunted house

An Essex estate agency has taken on the sale of a two-bedroom historic house that has been described as the ‘most difficult property to sell in the UK’.

Domus360 has begun marketing The Cage in St Osyth for offers in excess of £240,000 and is making no bones about its frightening past within the property’s online listings.

The house is said to be the UK’s ‘most haunted’ and for at least 500 years was used as a medieval prison. It is where 13 women accused of witchcraft were held in 1582. At their trial three were found guilty and one, Ursula Kemp, was hanged.

The house is only one of seven former medieval ‘cages’ left in the UK and its vendor Vanessa Mitchell says she has witnessed numerous paranormal events including a ghost tenant, satanic goat and blood spatters.

She fled the house in 2008 after living there for four years and has been trying to sell it ever since.

Latest agency Domus360 has taken an unusual approach to the property’s marketing, adding a witches broom to the sales particular images and deliberately photographing the property in a ghostly light.

“I think it’s going to be pretty impossible to sell the house to someone that wants to live normally inside,” Florent Lambert of Domus365 told The Mirror.

She says the agency is hoping to sell the property as a horrific Airbnb opportunity or a “holiday cottage with a twist” which could be rented out to the significant number of US and Japanese tourists who are fans of the paranormal.
