The Round Britain Reliability Run, organised by Club Triumph, included Team 140– Rob Lingard, Director of Saunders & Lingard and co-pilot Adam Rhodes of Glendenning. They joined 130 other classic Triumphs leaving Knebworth House for the 2,000 mile run – in 48 hours – next ‘stop’ John O’Groats – an 11 hour drive up the east coast of England, into Scotland at Carter Bar, then a two hour drive on the east coast road with breathtaking views, as the sun came up for breakfast.
On Saturday they enjoyed the best driving roads through Scotland, by Ben Nevis, Loch Ness and the Pass of Glencoe, into England, through Wales crossing the Severn Bridge back into England in the early hours.
They reached Lands End at 7am seeing the sunrise over Cornwall. On Sunday they left Devon after a stop to meet friends and family before setting off into Dorset for the infamous ‘cake stop’ at Pimperne, heading to Oxford and across country to the finish line at Knebworth House to enjoy a very well earned pint, or two!
2,400 miles in a 39-year-old car which apart from upgraded MX5 sports seats and rally Halogen headlights, has the original engine, running gear and suspension, they were only late twice. Twenty-eight cars didn’t make it but there’s drove very well and they are very proud! The team raised £1,000 taking the current total for the team to £72,000, in aid of Epilepsy Research UK.
