Outspoken SW agent Chris Wood closes his estate agency business

Chris Wood, the outspoken SW estate agent and occasional thorn in the side of both Purplebricks and the NAEA, has announced that his property business is to cease trading.

The announcement comes just a month after Wood revealed that his business PDQ Estates was quitting Rightmove and the high street, and that he planned to become a hybrid agency.

Wood cites several reasons for closing his 18-year-old estate agency including the rise of his virtual reality film company Ocean3D, which he recently said made more profit than PDQ Estates, as well as his desire to find a ‘lower stress’ form of employment given his history of depression and PTSD.

But in a lengthy blog on his website, the 51-year-old rails against ‘lazy solicitors, call-centre lenders, overs-zealous surveyors, incompetent estate agents and lying vendors and buyers’.
Wood says he is to ensure customers who have accepted offers subject to contract are taken through to completion, but is handing all other leads to rival PRH in Penzance.

That company is run by Theresa James, who Wood says is “one of the few agents I hold in the highest respect in the area and who I have known since school as an honest hard worker and excellent agent”.

Wood says he will not be exiting property entirely and hints that he will be continuing his efforts to reform the conveyancing process, carrying on his efforts to scrutinise Purplebricks and doing battle with Trading Standards and the ‘enforcement of laws designed to protect consumers and law-abiding agents’.
